All items for collection should be placed in a container with a tight-fitting lid curb side after 7:30 pm, or after 9 pm in the Limited Business Area on the appropriate day (see Waste Collection Schedule below). Failure to follow this and other municipal ordinances can result in the issuing of a summons.

Comingled Recycling (plastic, glass, beverage cartons, metal) is collected on Monday evenings. Recycling should be empty, clean, and dry. Only plastics numbered 1, 2, and 5 are accepted.
Paper Recycling (paper, cardboard) is collected on Thursday evenings. Cardboard must be flattened and secured (tied, in another box, or in a bin).

COMMINGLED RECYCLING [aluminum, glass, plastics numbered 1,2,5] must be clean, dry, and placed in blue covered bins, available for free at the Hoboken Recyling Center. Plastic bags are NOT recyclable.
PAPER RECYCLING (paper, cardboard) must be dry, flattened, and bundled in cardboard boxes, tied with string, or placed in blue covered bins. Please do not put paper recycling out in the rain! Styrofoam is NOT recyclable.

Separate leaves, grass, weeds and branches. Tie in bundles, or leaves may be put in leaf paper bags available at the Drop-Off Center.

Do not place trees in plastic bags. Remove all lights, ornaments, tinsel, etc. Trees must be completely bare for disposal.

Metal Furniture: Metal file cabinets, desks, bed frames, etc.
Metal Appliances: Remove doors from refrigerators, washers, dryers and stoves. Hot water heaters, air conditioners and small metal appliances are also accepted. You could get paid for recycling that old appliance! Before placing it at the curb, see if you are eligible for a $ rebate through the New Jersey Clean Energy Program.
Non-metal furniture and mattresses can be disposed of with regular garbage. Non-metal furniture with metal parts (example: upholstered chair with metal or wood legs, or a sofa bed) should be disposed of with regular garbage. For additional options to dispose of mattresses, visit Mattress Clarity.
Place at the curb after 7:30 pm (9:00 pm for Washington Street) on Wednesday night upside down with a paper sign that says "this can is garbage."

Computers, televisions, monitors, cell phones. Other small appliances such as vacuums, coffee makers, blenders, and food processors should be disposed of with regular garbage.
Lamps and lighting fixtures should be disposed of with regular garbage.
Incandescent light bulbs should be disposed of with regular garbage. Compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs should be recycled at a home improvement retailer.
Alkaline batteries can now be disposed of with regular garbage. Lithium Ion Batteries should be disposed with E-Waste. NO BATTERIES SHOULD BE IN RECYCLING.
Latex paint can now be disposed of with regular garbage, but the can must be empty or dried out. If the can of latex paint is half full, place speedy dry, cat litter, strips of newspaper in the can to soak up the liquid. If the can of latex paint is more than half full, it can be brought to the Hoboken Recycling Center. Non-latex paint is considered household hazardous waste (see "Household Hazardous Waste" below).
Construction and demolition waste (example: sheet rock, concrete, treated lumber) is not collected by the City of Hoboken. Construction and demolition waste must be hauled privately.
GreenDrop services Hoboken with weekly donation collections of clothing, shoes, blankets and bedding, tools, collectibles, kitchenware, toys, musical instruments and sporting goods. Donations should be bagged or boxed, labeled with the benefiting charity name and easily visible and accessible for the GreenDrop driver who will come by on Wednesdays between 7 am and 7 pm. Donors can call to schedule a home pickup at 888-944-3776 or register online. Collections must be scheduled directly with GreenDrop.
