Permit parking zone: This parking zone tends to be more residential in character. Typically, one side of the street is reserved for Resident Permit Parking only (Green sign white letters), and the other side of the street (White sign green letters) is open to visitors and other permit types such as (Temporary Permits, Business Permits, Virtual Visitor Permits, etc.) Metered parking is required from 9am-9pm, then after 9pm, all vehicles on-street must have a valid permit. Vehicles with a Resident On-Street Parking Permit are exempt from the four-hour meter time limit.
Pay parking zone: is an area where metered parking is in effect and all vehicles are required to pay the meter or ParkMobile from 9am-9pm. There is significant overlap between pay parking zones and business districts, but there are a few areas of the city where permit parking zones overlap with business districts. (ex: Washington Street north of 8th Street).
Business district zone: is an area where there is a high concentration of retail and commercial uses. As a result, these areas tend to have the highest demand for curbside access throughout the day and therefore the highest meter fees are charged here ($0.75/15 minutes) to help generate higher rates of turnover so more vehicles can get access to the finite amount of curb space in these areas. *Any resident, temporary, visitor, or business parking permit holder MUST feed the meter, no exemptions.

Contesting a Parking Summons:

Body Worn Cameras:
Parking Enforcement Officers are now equipped with body worn cameras in Hoboken. These cameras have proven to be a valuable tool for many different agencies across the country by documenting hostile interactions experienced by officers, de-escalating conflicts with members of the public, and creating accountability for officers.
