In 2020, the walkway project improved the pavers, railings, benches, lighting, trees, and plantings along the waterfront walkway from Pier A to Pier C. Improvements included:
In Fall 2022, this project will enhance mobility and improve pedestrian and bicycle safety by upgrading the bikeway along the waterfront walkway from Pier A to Pier C. Proposed improvements include:
Construction will begin in September, 2022, and is anticipated to be completed in December, 2022. Construction hours are 8 AM – 4 PM Monday through Friday, with equipment set up beginning no earlier than 7 AM and breakdown ending no later than 6 PM.
Certain areas of the waterfront bikeway will be unavailable to the community during construction. All areas will be secured for public safety.
The City is dedicated to ensuring public health and safety during construction, and the project includes measures addressing health and safety that the Contractor must abide to, including measures to minimize noise, dust, and odor. The project will follow an approved soil erosion and sediment control plan.
The Contractor for this project is Zenith Construction, and the Construction Manager is Kimley-Horn/ENGenuity. The City of Hoboken is overseeing project coordination.

The south waterfront improvements are funded by the South Waterfront Corporation, with no funding from the municipal budget.
The South Waterfront Corporation consists of the City of Hoboken, the Port Authority, Ironstate Development, SJP Properties, and Mack-Cali. Developer members of the South Waterfront Corporation pay an annual assessment for operations and maintenance of the southern waterfront which includes Pier A, Pier C, and the adjoining waterfront walkway.
