Water Main Break Recovery Grant Program

The City of Hoboken and Hoboken Business Alliance have partnered to provide businesses and certain property owners that were negatively impacted by the Feb. 27, 2023, water main break and boil water advisory with financial relief.

Eligible businesses and property owners can apply for up to $5,000 until Nov. 22, 2023. *This amount is subject to change, pending the number of applicants.*

Applications can be filed online at https://hoboken.seamlessdocs.com/f/WaterMainRecoveryGrantApplication.

The eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • The business must be located in Hoboken, operating during the time of the water main break, and currently operating. Please note, businesses that were not yet operational at the time of the water main break but were preparing to open and experienced losses and or delays due to the water main break are also eligible to apply.
  • The business must be able to demonstrate financial losses and or physical damages incurred between Feb. 27, 2023, and March 2, 2023, that the business suffered as a direct result of the water main break. *Losses and damages covered by insurance may not be claimed.*
  • Property owners must be located within Hoboken and have sustained physical property damage due to the water main repairs between Feb. 27, 2023, and March 2, 2023.
  • Property owners and business owners are eligible to apply for assistance; however, funding requests may not be duplicated. For example, if a property owner repaired building damages due to the water main break, the property owner may request assistance for those costs. The business owner leasing this building may not request assistance for the same building repairs; however, the business owner may request assistance with other eligible expenses, such as product loss, revenue loss, etc., due to the water main break.

The below expenses are eligible for financial relief:

  • Direct Losses
  • Revenue Loss – Due to business closure for Feb. 27, 2023 – March 2, 2023
  • Product Loss – Due to business closure for Feb. 27, 2023 – March 2, 2023
  • Physical Damages to building, equipment, and/or merchandise due to water main break flooding – necessary repairs, replacement, servicing, cleaning.
  • Lost Wages for personnel scheduled to work Feb. 27, 2023 – March 2, 2023, who were unable to work due to business closure as a result of the water main break.
