The City of Hoboken today opened applications for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for fiscal year 2025. This funding, estimated at approximately $1 million based on the 2024 allocation, is provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to assist community members with low- to moderate-incomes and respond to urgent community needs.
To apply for CDBG funding, applicants should visit the Hoboken Community Development Block Grant webpage at www.hobokennj.gov/resources/community-development-block-grant-program. Applications are due by Friday, March 21, at 4 p.m.
As part of the City’s preparation of the 2025-2029 Five-Year Consolidated Plan and 2025 Annual Action Plan, the City launched an online Community Needs Survey. The survey aims to gather feedback from residents, public agencies, and other stakeholders on community needs, project ideas, and the City’s overall performance in managing the CDBG program. The survey will be available until Friday, Feb. 21, at 5 p.m. at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/L2FKNF7 in English and at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KK5ZHD9 in Spanish.
The Citywill also host an in-person public hearing on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 6 p.m. in the ground floor conference room at City Hall, 94 Washington St. to gather public feedback and provide information regarding application procedures, program performance, timing, eligible activities, and other CDBG program requirements.
Residents can also submit written comments to Cathleen Wolf, AICP PP, Principal Planner, at 94 Washington St., Hoboken, NJ 07030, or via email at cwolf@hobokennj.gov.
“As we plan for the next five years, the voices of our residents are essential in identifying community priorities and ensuring this grant funding is allocated where it is most needed,” said Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla. “I encourage everyone to participate in the public hearing, complete the survey, and share their ideas for how we can continue to build a stronger, more equitable city.”
For persons with disabilities who wish to attend the public hearing and require auxiliary aids, services, or other accommodations, please contact the City at (201) 420-2000 Ext. 3001 in advance.
Last year, the City awarded over $1 million in CDBG funding to local non-profits and public agencies including the Hoboken Shelter, Hoboken Community Center, and Hoboken Housing Authority for social services, security improvements, playground resurfacing, and dedicating funds towards upgrades to Mama Johnson Field.
