Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla and Hoboken’s Division of Recreation today announced the City will offer co-ed youth field hockey this fall. The new instructional program will provide third through eighth graders with field hockey fundamentals including the rules of the game, hand control positions, flip, pass, running and more. The 8-week program will offer practices Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The season will begin on September 7, 2023.
Registration will open on Wednesday, July 19, at 12 p.m. at: https://hoboken.recdesk.com/Community/Program. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
“I am thrilled to announce that the City will now offer field hockey to Hoboken youth, which is yet another example of how we are modernizing and expanding our recreation department to meet the diverse needs of our community,” said Mayor Bhalla. “I hope residents take advantage of this opportunity as well as our other fall offerings.”
This fall, the City will continue to offer youth Jr. Redwings tackle football, flag football, volleyball, competitive travel cheer, golf, and recreation soccer.
Tackle football is co-ed, and available for children 6 through 14 years old. Practices will be offered Monday through Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Mama Johnson Field. Games will begin in September and be held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.
Co-ed flag football will be offered to residents between 7 and 14 years old. Practices will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays and games will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays starting in October with schedules varying and based on the grade of the participants and teams.
The co-ed volleyball program will begin the week of September 11, 2023, for children in fifth through eighth grades. Practice and games will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Youth First Tee Golf starts Sept. 10, and runs for seven weeks with 5- and 6-year-olds playing on Sundays from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. 7- to 10-year-olds will play from 4:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Sundays.
Recreation soccer for children in kindergarten through eighth Grade will begin in September. Participants will be placed on teams based on their rising grade. Practices will be either on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays. Games will be held on Saturdays.
The CDA Cheer Travel Competitive Program for children 5 through 18 years old is year-round and practices are three times a week. Practice schedules vary throughout the year. Travel competitions are held between January and April.
