PUBLIC NOTICE
CITY OF HOBOKEN
The City of Hoboken is seeking $2,000,000 in funding through the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs Resilient Communities program to construct a resiliency park at 800 Monroe Street, inclusive of tennis courts, a lawn area, a fitness equipment area,large and small dog runs, gardens, seating areas, shade structures, and other park appurtenances, along with subsurface stormwater detention infrastructure. The800 Monroe Resiliency Park will provide residents with public open space and mitigate area flooding caused by heavy rainfall events. The park will bolster the City's resiliency efforts, becoming the City's fourth resiliency park following the Resiliency City Park, 7th & Jackson Resiliency Park, and Southwest Resiliency Park that together will detain over 3 million gallons of stormwater once construction is completed. The project is located at 800 Monroe Street (Block 87, Lot 1.01) and will directly benefit the surrounding western Hoboken neighborhood by providing new public open space and stormwater management infrastructure, while indirectly benefiting the broader community byr educing pressure on the City's stormwater system during heavy rainfall events.Information on the project is available at hobokennj.gov/800monroe.
The public is encouraged to attend a public hearing to learn more about the proposal and to ask questions or provide comments on the project on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be held in person, as part oft he regularly scheduled Council meeting. Accommodations for non-English speaking citizens will be made with advanced notice. The public will have an opportunity to provide comments at the meeting and may also submit comments in writing by September 2, 2026. On or before September 30, 2026, the City of Hoboken will submit an application for Resilient Communities Program funding to the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, Division of Disaster Recovery and Mitigation. Funding for the Resilient Communities Program is provided through HUD’s Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Program, as appropriated by Congress. The project to be undertaken with CDBG-DR funding includes the subsurface stormwater detention and surface level green infrastructure components of the 800 Monroe Resiliency Park design, to be located at 800 Monroe Street in Hoboken, New Jersey.
