Parking Permit Renewal Information

HPU can process permit requests via an online parking permit sales system called HPUOnline, making it possible to conduct all your business with the Parking Utility on your schedule wherever you want! Approximately one month prior to the expiry of your annual Resident parking permit, you should receive an email notification and, in most cases, a notification letter/postcard by traditional mail.  If you would like to apply at the expiration of your resident parking permit using our new HPUOnline system, please visit our site at: www.hobokennj.gov/hpuonline.

If you would rather apply at the expiration of your resident parking permit via the traditional walk-in or paper and mail method, you may still do so. In most cases, we simply require a New Jersey driver’s license with a legal Hoboken address and a New Jersey vehicle registration both in the same name and address as the resident to whom the permit was previously issued. We also require a copy of the notification letter/postcard you received in the mail to verify your current residence. If you don’t have these documents, please be sure to read the information below carefully.

As of January 1, 2024, the rates for Resident parking permits are $57 for the first vehicle in a household, $114 for the second vehicle in a household, and $228 for the third and any additional vehicles in your household. Residents that are seniors (62+), veterans of the U.S. military, or disabled are eligible for 50% discounts on their resident parking permits ($27) with official documentation proving eligibility. If there are vehicles/names listed not in your household below, please confirm we have your correct mailing address. Resident parking permits expire on the anniversary of their issuance. Please make checks payable to “Hoboken Parking Utility’. Fees and proper documentation must be received at least one week in advance of permit expiry for timely processing.

If you run into any problems, please do not hesitate to contact us via email at parking@hobokennj.gov or by phone at (201) 653-1919. We are open Monday through Friday, 8:30AM to 6:00PM. As always, we realize the rules can be tough to figure out in some instances; our staff are committed to guiding you successfully through the renewal process.
