Applications now open for the Hoboken Junior Police Academy 2025

The Hoboken Police Department today invited residents to apply to the 2025 Junior Police Academy, a free, week-long summer program designed for Hoboken youth interested in learning more about law enforcement and community service.

The Hoboken Junior Police Academy offers students a hands-on look into the field of law enforcement and the criminal justice system, while teaching leadership, enhancing self-esteem, and building positive relationships with police officers and peers. Several neighboring agencies including Stevens Institute of Technology Police, New Jersey State Police, and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office will join Hoboken Police in providing daily physical training, interactive lessons, and special demonstrations. Past academies included visits from a local K-9 team, drone and robotics instruction, first aid training with Hoboken EMS, and field trips to other local agencies. Lunch is provided daily.

“The Junior Police Academy is one of the highlights every year, for me, and the entire department,” said Chief Steven Aguiar. “It gives us a chance to connect with some of the best and brightest young Hobokenites, and maybe inspire a few future officers. I encourage interested youth, to apply for this unique opportunity to learn, grow, have some fun, and gain a better understanding of the important role Hoboken Police play in our community.”

This year’s academy will take place from Monday, July 14, to Friday, July 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Stevens Institute of Technology. The program, sponsored by the Hoboken Police Department and the Hudson County Municipal Alliance, is completely free for participants. The Academy is open to all Hoboken residents, between the ages of 10 and 15, at the start of the camp. 24 applicants will be selected to participate through a random lottery.

The Junior Police Academy application closes on Friday, June 6. Applications can be dropped off at Hoboken Police Headquarters, 106 Hudson St., or emailed to: feskena@hobokenpdnj.gov.
