Boil water advisory for Hoboken; Water pressure low due to Veolia repairs in Jersey City

The City of Hoboken has been notified of a precautionary boil water advisory by Veolia, the operator of Hoboken’s water system, as required by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP).

The boil water advisory is a necessary precaution, as a result of ongoing emergency repairs by Veolia in Jersey City, which resulted in water pressure going below a certain recommended threshold.

Veolia is working to restore full service as repairs continue, with much of Hoboken currently experiencing low to no water pressure. Once water is fully restored, residents are advised to boil water for consumption. (See below for more information)

The precautionary boil water advisory will remain in effect until further notice, as testing on water samples will be conducted as soon as possible. Veolia will notify Hoboken customers when the NJDEP lifts the boil water order.

Boil water for consumption

Residents and businesses should boil their water for at least one minute for the following: washing dishes, drinking, cooking, or baking, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula or food, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets, and all other consumption.

Water does not have to be boiled for showering or washing clothes.
