The City of Hoboken and the Hoboken Green Team invite residents to participate in Hoboken’s second citywide gate sale on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The citywide event gives residents the opportunity to sell gently used, secondhand items directly from their gates or stoops, or from Church Square Park to help promote reuse, reduce waste, and give household items a second life.
Shoppers will be able to explore participating locations using an online city map, making it easy to discover unique items and visit sales throughout the city.
“After the tremendous positive feedback from our first citywide gate sale, we’re excited to bring this community event back by popular demand,” said Mayor Emily B. Jabbour. “The gate sale is a fun way for neighbors to connect, find new homes for items they no longer need, and support reuse right here in Hoboken. Thank you to the Hoboken Green Team for helping bring this event back for the fall.”
The Citywide Gate Sale also supports the Climate Action Plan’s focus on sustainable consumption and community engagement as key strategies for lowering Hoboken’s overall greenhouse gas emissions and building a more resilient and environmentally responsible community.
Reducing waste is a component of the City’s Climate Action Plan, which aims to reach carbon neutrality by 2050 and net zero energy by 2030. Materials sent to landfills decompose and release greenhouse gases such as methane. In Hoboken, solid waste accounts for approximately 5 percent of the community’s greenhouse gas emissions, which total roughly 161,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions each year. By extending the life of gently used household items and clothing through reuse, residents can help reduce emissions associated with waste disposal as well as the production and transportation of new goods.

Sale locations will be citywide, with Church Square Park serving as a centralized option for residents without access to a stoop or gate.
