The City of Hoboken, Hoboken Public Safety Department, Hoboken Emergency Medical Services (HEMS), and Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps (HVAC) today unveiled a brand new, state-of-the art ambulance. The vehicle was put into service today, on the 54th anniversary of the incorporation of HVAC, following a special ceremony at EMS headquarters.
“Congratulations to HEMS/HVAC on this exciting new chapter,” said Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla. “I am grateful for the hard work and dedication of all the members who have tirelessly served our community for decades. With this new ambulance, they will be even better equipped to continue their lifesaving work at the highest level.”
The vehicle, a 2025 Ford Transit, has been fully outfitted with cutting-edge technology and first-rate equipment, including advanced radios, power-lift stretchers, and a mechanical CPR device, designed to meet the specific needs of Hoboken EMS and HVAC.
“The Corps has been dedicated to the Hoboken community, for over 50 years,” said Public Safety Director Ken Ferrante. “The new ambulance underscores our ongoing commitment to public safety and ensures we can continue providing our residents with the highest level of emergency care possible for years to come.”
The purchase was made possible through a funding model HEMS/HVAC adopted in 2022, after transitioning to a hybrid system combining both paid and volunteer EMTs. The billing system, which collects payment exclusively from insurance providers and never patients, has allowed HEMS/HVAC to reinvest in itself with critical resources, such as the new ambulance.
“We are thrilled to introduce this cutting-edge ambulance into our fleet,” said Tommy Molta, President of HEMS/HVAC. “With our dedicated team, whom I am extremely proud of, and this vehicle and its advanced technology, we’ll be able to provide even better care to our community when they need it most.”
