Hoboken Public Safety Director Ken Ferrante, Hoboken Police Chief Steven Aguiar, and Student Resource Officer Lieutenant Melissa Gigante announce the launch of the new Hoboken Police Pop-up series. The community engagement sessions will include fun for the whole family featuring educational outreach for adults, kid-friendly activities, and refreshments.
The first Police Pop-up session will be on Wednesday, June 8, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Harrison Garden Courtyard located at Third and Jackson Streets.
The Hoboken Police Department’s rotating neighborhood engagement sessions aim to gather resident feedback to inform policing needs within various communities.
Although the City has the Hoboken CAP’s (Community and Public Safety) program, which includes every division of the Hoboken Public Safety Department, the Police Pop-up sessions aim to be police-specific community meetings that are both fun and informational.
HPD has partnered with the Guazabara Insights Credible Messengers Program and HOPES CAP, Inc on the pop-up series. Hopes Cap, Inc, a local Community Action Agency serving Hudson, Union, and Somerset Counties, provides programs and services for children, adults, and seniors to combat poverty and become self-sufficient.
HOPES Cap, Inc will provide crafts for children, and the Guazabara Insights Credible Messengers Program will distribute pamphlets about their mentorship and life coaching programs as well as their advocacy for fairness and equity in the administration of justice.
Residents will also be asked to participate in a brief survey which, if completed, gives them the opportunity to spin the wheel for some HPD swag.
