Hoboken to offer new, updated COVID-19 booster to eligible residents

Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla and the Hoboken Health Department today announced that the City will host a new COVID-19 updated booster clinic for eligible residents on Tuesday, Sept. 13.

Through a partnership with Medicine Man Pharmacy & Compounding, the City will have a clinic at 605 Jackson St. from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to provide residents 12 years old and older who received their primary vaccine dose or booster at least two months ago with 300 Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Bivalent vaccines, or “updated boosters.”

Appointments are required, and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Residents can book an appointment at http://www.hobokennj.gov/medicinemanvaccine. It is anticipated that the appointments will be fully booked in a short amount of time for this initial clinic.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized the updated booster this month.

As bivalent vaccines, these single-dose updated boosters target both the original COVID-19 strain as well as the BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron subvariants. According to the FDA, Omicron is currently causing most U.S. COVID-19 cases and the omicron variants are predicted to circulate this fall and winter as well.

"I encourage all those eligible to consider getting the updated booster to increase your protection against COVID-19 as we head towards the colder fall and winter months,” said Mayor Bhalla. "Thank you to Medicine Man Pharmacy & Compounding for your continued partnership to ensure our residents have access to these critical updated boosters. This clinic will be the first of several we will hold in the coming months with the updated booster.”

In the coming days, the City will announce additional updated booster clinics as it receives more shipments of updated boosters.
