Mayor Bhalla and the City of Hoboken announce the availability of Pfizer booster shots

Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla and the City of Hoboken will begin offering Pfizer booster shots to eligible individuals starting on Monday, Sept. 27, following authorization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. (CDC)

“We know that the vaccines are our greatest line of defense against COVID-19,” said Mayor Bhalla. “But, according to experts, the protection provided by COVID-19 vaccines appears to wane over time. With the rise of the Delta variant, it is imperative that we increase protection for our seniors, those with underlying medical conditions, and those at a greater risk of exposure. I urge everyone eligible to get a booster shot as soon as possible.”

Starting on Monday, Sept. 27, The Hoboken Health Department and Hoboken Family Pharmacy will begin offering Pfizer booster shots to individuals 65 years old and older who received the full course of the Pfizer vaccine at least six months ago.

The Hoboken Health Department and Hoboken Family Pharmacy will be in the community rooms of each of the City’s senior buildings, offering not only Pfizer vaccines to eligible individuals but also Flu shots to all building residents.

The schedule is as follows:

• Monday, Sept. 27, Marion Towers at 400 First Street from 9 am to 1 pm.
• Tuesday, Sept. 28, at Fox Hills at 311 13th Street from 9 am to 1 pm.
• Wednesday, Sept. 29, Monroe Gardens at 221 Jackson Street from 9 am to 1 pm.
• Thursday, Sept. 30, Adams Gardens at 220 Adams Street from 9 am to 1 pm.
• Friday, Oct. 1, Columbian Towers at 76 Bloomfield Street from 9 am to 1 pm.
• Friday, Oct. 1, Columbian Arms at 514 Madison Street from 1:30 pm to 3 pm.

Those seeking a Pfizer booster shot must bring their vaccine card.

“Working with our local partners, we have made it easy for our seniors in senior buildings to get a Pfizer booster as soon as possible by bringing the boosters directly to them,” said Leo Pellegrini, Director of Health and Human Services. “Hoboken is committed to providing these booster shots as well as continued testing and vaccinations for all our residents.”

Through a partnership with Medicine Man Pharmacy and Compounding the City will also expand its vaccine clinics at 605 Jackson Street from two days per week to three days per week.

Anyone who works, lives, or goes to school in Hoboken can get vaccinated with Moderna, Pfizer, or Johnson & Johnson vaccines. Third doses for immunocompromised individuals who are fully vaccinated with Pfizer or Moderna are available, and now, eligible individuals fully vaccinated with Pfizer at least six months ago can receive their Pfizer booster shot. No appointment is necessary!

The vaccine clinics are scheduled for Monday, Sept. 27, from 9 am to 12 pm; Tuesday, Sept. 28, from 4 pm to 7 pm; and Wednesday, Sept. 29 from 9 am to12 pm.

Those seeking a Pfizer booster shot must bring their vaccine card.

Those eligible to receive a Pfizer booster shot include:

• Individuals 65 years old and older who received the full course of the Pfizer vaccine at least six months ago.
• Individuals who received their full course of the Pfizer vaccine at least six months ago between the ages of 50 and 64, with underlying medical conditions that put them at risk of severe illness from COVID-19
• Individuals between the ages of 18 and 49 who received a full course of the Pfizer vaccine at least six months ago with underlying medical conditions based on their individual benefits and risks
• Individuals between the ages of 18 and 64 who received their full course of the Pfizer vaccine at least six months ago who are at an increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional settings such as frontline workers, healthcare workers, teachers, and people who work in prisons and homeless shelters.

“Thank you to the FDA and CDC for authorizing Pfizer booster shots and I remain optimistic that booster shots will become available for those who received Johnson & Johnson or Moderna vaccines,” said Mayor Bhalla. “If they do, our outstanding Hoboken Health Department and local partners will once again be ready to offer them. Thank you to our partners and the Hoboken Health Department for continuing to aid our residents during the ongoing pandemic.”

Hoboken continues to offer COVID-19 testing with local providers several days per week. Testing clinics have been relocated to 601 Jackson St.
